Mayan Abdominal Massage as a Self-Care Tool: Supporting Your Healing After a Session
When we receive a Mayan Abdominal Massage, we aren’t just receiving a therapeutic touch—we’re connecting with an ancient lineage of wisdom and care. Rooted in traditional Mayan healing practices, this abdominal work is gentle yet profound, designed to support reproductive health, digestive vitality, emotional release, and energetic balance.
But the healing doesn’t end on the massage table. In fact, one of the most empowering aspects of this work is that it puts self-care back into your own hands—literally.
As a practitioner, one of the most essential tools I love to share with my clients is self abdominal massage, a practice that allows you to stay connected to your center, continue your healing journey at home, and deepen your awareness of your own body.
Why Self-Abdominal Massage?
After your session, your organs may have shifted, tensions may have softened, and circulation may be flowing more freely. Continuing the work at home can:
Reinforce the structural changes from your session
Encourage lymphatic drainage and improved blood flow
Support menstrual and digestive cycles
Ease emotional tension stored in the belly
Promote hormonal balance by nurturing the uterus and ovaries
Most importantly, self-massage is a way to honor your own body with compassion and presence.
When and How to Practice
I typically recommend beginning your self-abdominal massage the day after your professional session, allowing your body time to integrate. From there, you can begin a daily or near-daily practice, ideally in the evening when your body is calm and the nervous system is ready to receive.
Here’s a simple framework to get started:
Simple Mayan-Inspired Self-Abdominal Massage Practice
Create Sacred Space
Light a candle, take a few deep breaths, and set the intention to connect with your womb, gut, or center.Warm Your Hands
Use castor oil or warm massage oil. Rub your hands together until they feel energized and warm.Begin With Breath
Place your hands over your navel. Breathe deeply into your belly and invite your body to soften.Gentle Clockwise Circles
Using your fingertips or palms, make slow, gentle clockwise circles around your belly button (the direction of digestion). Apply only light-to-medium pressure.Focus on the Uterus or Pelvis
Place your hands just above your pubic bone. Use upward strokes to gently guide the uterus back into alignment (if applicable). Be mindful and slow.Hold & Listen
Finish with your hands resting on your belly. Stay here for a few breaths. What do you notice? What does your belly want to share with you today?
Important Notes:
Avoid practicing during active menstruation (wait until your flow has ended).
If you’re pregnant, postpartum, or have an IUD or medical condition, always consult your practitioner first.
Be patient—this is a practice of tuning in, not fixing.
A Sacred Return to Self
Mayan abdominal massage invites us to reclaim our bellies—not just as a site of digestion or reproduction, but as a sacred center of intuition, creativity, and power. Practicing self-massage can become a deeply nourishing ritual—an act of radical self-love that supports physical, emotional, and energetic well-being.
If you’ve recently had a session with me or another practitioner, I encourage you to begin this self-care practice and notice what shifts—inside and out.
Your body remembers. Your hands are healing. Your center is sacred.
